Norse mythology From left: Gudrun, Sigurd, Brunhild and Gunnar... From the Volsunga saga.
In a very small nutshell (I won't give away too much, its such a beautiful story I recommend you to read it for yourself), Odin locks away Brunhild on a mountain for disobedience, only to be awakened and given away to marriage. But she refuses to be wooed by a man who knows fear, and so after Sigurd fearlessly defeated the wyrm Fafnir and rode through the flames to awaken her, they make an oath to be wed as soon as Sigurd returns.
He leaves and meets the family of Giuki where Grimhild decides to make Sigurd the husband of her daughter, Gudrun. She gives him a drink to make him forget about Brunhild, and Gudrun marries Sigurd. After this, Grimhild decides to make Brunhild the wife of her son, Gunnar, and she sets the men off to go find her. But Gunnar, unable to ride through the flames, sends Sigurd in his stead(Sigurd posing as Gunnar) to fetch her. She's of course disappointed by this(still under the impression that Sigurd is Gunnar), but agrees to marry Gunnar despite being mad about Sigurd. After some time the two wives quarrel over who's husband is the stronger, and Gudrun reveals the treachery of Grimhild. Brunhild pretty much goes into a mad depression, still being in love with Sigurd and pining for him, and things go very, very bad...
I'll let you all read the ending for yourselves [link]
I feel so bad for Brunhild, she's my favorite of all Valkyries. This picture pretty much sums up everything, Brunhild being obsessed with Sigurd, who's married to Gudrun(who worries about everything and everyone) but is torn between his wife and his strange feelings toward Brunhild, and poor Gunnar who is cruelly ignored and mistreated, yearning for the attention of his wife, Brunhild.
This looks great! I love the way you shaded the folds in the fabric, and the detailing on the chainmail armour. The metal plates of Sigurd and Gunnar's armour are very well done. Brynhild's my favourite too, and I also do feel sorry for her... I am writing a book about what happens after her death. Some adventures wait! Spoiler: Sigurd is there too!
